Whether you’re going for a business meeting, a family vacation, a weekend away, or simply coming home, the New York metropolitan area will always keep the light on. Theaters, restaurants, snazzy hotels, shops, architecture, art, music, sports – they’re all here, and we’ve got a few good ideas to help you find the venue you’re after. Nearly one of every 14 Americans lives in this area. Let us show you what the other 13 are missing.

Your Itinerary

If you have two hours
The Intrepid, a retired World War II aircraft carrier, served New York well and faithfully as the linchpin of a sea-air-space museum from 1982 until it went into dry dock in October 2006. The ship returns, renovated, in November, to the rebuilt Pier 86, along with other exhibits, including a submarine and a Concorde jet. The Grand Opening Week, starting Saturday, November 8, will feature numerous festivities. W. 46th St. and 12th Ave., 877.957.SHIP; intrepidmuseum.org

If you have two days
The third annual Latin American Cultural Week embraces all five boroughs of New York City. From November 8–19, Pan American Musical Art Research brings in 11 days of song, dance, theater, and literature celebrating the Latino arts community. A highlight is PINTA 08, a contemporary Latin American art fair, taking place November 13–16 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Manhattan. pamar.org, pintaart.com

If you have a long weekend
Montauk Point, at the easternmost tip of Long Island, has few tourists in autumn. It’s the perfect time to visit the Montauk Lighthouse and Museum. Commissioned by George Washington in 1792, it was the first lighthouse in New York State, and its beacon still shines. Montauklife.com can tell you which hotels stay open all year, at rates considerably lower than in summertime. By the way, don’t worry about the Montauk Monster. It’s a myth (we think).
