![]() From the EditorIt happens every summer. We get restless, and the idea of striking out for new places gets harder to resist than a fast car on a Friday night. This month, Michael Buller, the editor and creative force behind Continental’s award-winning magazine for the past six-plus years, isn’t resisting. After 78 great issues covering more than 10,000 destinations, Michael is set to do some traveling of his own: departing for a new career adventure. Michael has always told us that the adventure of travel is just as exciting as the destination itself, and I have to agree. It wouldn’t take any coaxing (though it might take a good pair of running shoes) to get me to follow writer Bob Woods for this issue’s “creative decathlon” through Beijing and the surrounding area (“Let the Games Begin”). As China gears up for the Summer Olympics, Woods cycles, treks and, sometimes, shops in the Olympic Village, the Forbidden City, Silk Alley, the Summer Palace, and the city’s hutongs. If golf is your Olympic sport, check out Front Nine for a lineup of great courses to play on June 21 the summer solstice and the longest day of the year including one in the “land of the midnight putt” (Alaska). Or, if you’re sticking with the lower 48, Crop Bistro & Bar in Cleveland and Julep in Jackson, Miss. and New York’s newly renovated Plaza hotel should be on your list of places to explore. You might even want to go all-in one weekend and try playing poker with the Las Vegas pros. Next month, we’ll travel to the historic city of Tel Aviv, Israel, for adventure, terrific food, and a little nightlife on the Mediterranean coast. Until then, to paraphrase Michael for a moment, I wish you great adventures and good reading. As always, happy travels and good reading. Shawna Mullen, Editor

After spending time in New York, photographer Greg Miller now lives in Atlanta with his wife and two children. His work appears regularly in Atlanta magazine, and soon he’ll be traveling to Trinidad and Tobago to build an image library for that country’s marketing efforts. This month, Miller trained his lens on Coca-Cola’s Kevin Tressler. Although Tressler was busy, Miller says, he was a pleasure to work with. “And those Chinese Coke bottles were amazing,” he adds.
Writer Adam Kleiner, who gives us an inside look at casino poker, said he was attracted to the assignment because, well, “Let’s just say I’ve eaten more ‘free’ breakfasts in Las Vegas than I care to admit. Too often I’ve been the sucker that legendary gambler ‘Amarillo Slim’ Preston describes in his books.” Kleiner is a longtime Continental contributor whose work has also appeared in National Geographic Traveler, Men’s Journal, and Maxim. He is based in New York. We welcome letters from our readers: Letters about this magazine should be sent to the Editor, Continental magazine, 99 Bedford Street, Floor 5, Boston, MA 02111, or e-mailed to continental@pohlyco.com.
